Penile Augmentation

The UCLA report in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery shows that may men are now interested in surgery for penile augmentation. A survey was conducted and the results stated that 23 per cent of the participants would not find a surgery and 17 percent expressed possible interest for surgery. UCLA’s David Frederick says that interest in cosmetic surgery is growing. Majority of the women expressed interest in surgery while one third of the men also expressed some degree of interest.

Though there is tremendous pressure for women to remain thin and men to remain fit and muscular it comes as a surprise that so many people are actually interested in surgical body alteration. The survey revealed that about 11 percent of men and 22 percent of women found themselves unattractive while 16 percent of men and 31 percent of women felt uncomfortable in wearing a swimsuit in public. However Frederick found out that there was no relation between the people’s body image and cosmetic surgery as even those people who thought they had a poor body image were interested in surgical alteration. Hence people who were interested in cosmetic surgery were not less satisfied than those people who were not interested in surgery.

Many doctors feel that penile augmentation should be the last resort to be taken if everything else fails. Also most of the surgeons have come out with their own surgical methods that have not even been endorsed by accredited medical associations. In fact associations like the American Urological Association, American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery have issued policy statements against surgical procedures for penis enlargement.

All of these surgical procedures are just experimental and there have not been enough studies conducted to get accurate facts about the results of penis enlargement surgery along with its complications. Despite several procedures of increasing the size of the penis such as severing the ligament attaching the penis to the pubic bone or advancing a skin flap from the pubic area to the penis or just replacing fat from the abdomen of the body around the penis the fact remains that all these procedures have complications and side effects in the long run.
None of these techniques have proved to be effective or safe by researchers. Hence it is said that surgery is a risky, costly and a complicated option. In fact surgery may not make any difference in terms of length of an erect penis.
