Depression
Sex is made to be an important thing in our country. Almost every ad, television show and movie you see has some sex appeal in it. More songs are written about love and sex than any other topic. It’s understandable, then, that men who have problems performing in bed find themselves feeling down. It is extremely important that any man with erectile dysfunction recognize the difference between feeling down, and feeling depressed.
Depression is much different than feeling frustration or anger at an erectile dysfunction problem. Depression is marked by these symptoms:
Anxiety
Fatigue
Persistent sadness
Hopelessness or Extreme pessimism
Problems sleeping
Changes in diet and appetite
Self-esteem problems
Depression is much different than just feeling “sad”. Everyone has days where they feel down and blue, but they are generally better within a few days. True depression means that the person experiencing the symptoms is unable to feel better, no matter what they try. It is very important, especially if you have erectile dysfunction, to be honest with your doctor, your partner, and yourself about how you feel and what symptoms you have.
There is treatment for depression from erectile dysfunction. Many men feel that their depression will automatically go away once their erectile dysfunction is being treated, but that is not always the case. The feelings do not necessarily go away, and may require further treatment. The first step is often therapy. Getting into a room with a non-partial third-party can often help the man come to terms with his physical issues, and may help him realize that they are not insurmountable.
The next step in treatment is medication. There are many different medications that a doctor can prescribe that will help ease the symptoms of depression, such as Wellbutrin, Prozac and Zoloft. These medications may cause more problems with the erectile dysfunction, so you need to keep in touch with your doctor so that he can monitor the condition during treatment.
